Today, the Phoenician confirmed that a Vongerichten restaurant will replace Mary Elaine’s. It’s not yet known whether it will be a branch of an existing restaurant or a new concept.

Well, The Phoenician is a Starwood hotel, so I guess most likely it's going to be a Spice Market. Unless they bought another JG concept? Or does their deal with him just mean they get free run of whatever they want? huh.gif

If they were smart, instead of supposedly looking for a new venue for Vong, they would make Matsugen and Vong a hybrid resto and cut down on even more of their enormous losses.

Boo hoo fucking hoo. Vong might have been really good once, but I know someone that went a few years ago, and they said it sucked. Obviously, JG didn't care about it anyway.

He cares, he is just a little busy doing 50 new restos with Starwood

Vong was losing it for the past 5 years.
The fact it has survived that long is a tribute to the staying power of the brand.

17 years is definitly a statement........................nothing lasts forever

If he really cared about any of his businesses, would he have kept You Know Who for so long and let all of that go on under his nose?? He only cares about the money.

Oh shit you're right. Alright then

Blue Ribbon 18 years
B Bar 18 years
Les Halles 19
City Crab 17

My point is it's not that hard to find restos in NYC by serious business people that have lasted over 15 years. Usually a lease for this type of resto isn't even considered unless it is in the 15-20 year range. Nobody cares less about the 'brand' he created than Bourdain, but Les Halles still keeps going.
For someone that's supposed to be as serious as JG, 17 years is not a big deal or a long time, which only goes to prove how all he cares about is the money and getting his name in the press. Sucks for him that alot of his press lately is shit.

It does say soemthing that JG has spent most of his energy opening new places than tending to the ones he already has. This is the curse of the celebrity chef, after being so addicted to the media attn and hype, they get bored quickly and have to move on in order to keep up the buzz.....
