Apparently, he likes them just fine, as long as he's obliged to suck Graydon Carter's ass. LOL.

No, that's just when he sounds the most idiotic - when he's reviewing places that are hot, but it's so obvious that he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. biggrin.gif rolleyes.gif

If that's true, it's been a long time coming! I've suspected for awhile that Bruni has been intentionally writing such erratic reviews, because he wants to be transferred, probably back to Rome. It's easy to understand why he wouldn't want to quit the Times, but he never enjoyed, nor was he ever good at, rest'nt reviews. The Tines just threw him into that slot, because they no one else wanted it after they got rid of Hesser. Always thought Bruni was only in it it for the free grub and booze. If you look into his record of always bringing in big parties that drank like fish, it's seems obvious. The few times I've seen Bruni, his drink tab always topped his food expenses.

Bruni has denied that he is leaving NY Times, but this last review on Momofuku Saam seems like he did it intentianlly beacsue he knows he's leaving so he wants to spend his last few reviews pumping up his freinds? Its weird that he would go back there so soon. I have nothing agaisnt David Chang but that it got 3 stars is ridiculous. Momo is a better dining exp then Four Seasons? It seems like Bruni knows that his time is up and he does not care what anyone thinks of his reviews.

LOL.

Four more reviews until he's out at the New Year:

Momofuku Noodle

Momofuku Ko

Momofuku Milk

And - Momofuku Ko, again. Just for the hell of it.

Even if Bruni isn't quitting, he might get fired like Gael Greene.

Restaurants Stop Playing Hard to Get
By FRANK BRUNI

You have got to read the comments on this article. Hysterical. I love how it seems like no one is buying this schtick. It gives me hope that the world isn't really as stupid as the media thinks it is.

Thes businesses are trying every trick in the book to try to stay afloat but in a case like this it's not coming off as a good bargain but as a desperate stratagy. Looking at the comments makes it seeem like it;s lucky not to be mentioned because it's a kiss of death. Every time I see a new bargain that's being offered now is when I start wondering how long before that place closes.

a lot of places that will do deals and offers are just trying to be proactive - for every Matsugen, there is Cafe Boulud doing a lunch for $24 beyond RW. somehow i don't think CB is closing any time soon.

the comments on the Times article are crazy, though. do these people go out more than twice a year? i don't really get snooty/cold/rude hostesses or waitstaff, or evil managers. most of the time, they are nice and polite and take good care of me. maybe because i'm nice and polite to them - what a novel idea!

it's funny how they are ragging on Babbo but the article is all about Del Posto (of course) - Babo has no problem filling their tables, especially at prime time.

how trhe hell did they get Sirio to put that thing on tho? things must be bad (outside RW)
