yah so. this new joint is opening soon

i have refrained from saying anything about it all simply because i didn't want to pollute my bandwidth with this nonsense. cuz i can't stand this Dorkass. never liked him. never will.

i'm not into schadenfreude. i'm REALLY not into wishing ill on others.

but now i hear this Dorkass is going around telling peoples he is going to "steal customers" and "bury" mutherfukkers. as in: he's such hot shit, he's going to "shut" other places "down." (mhmmp. even though he has ONE place on his resumé and everybody knows that company's a joke.)

whatever. douchebag
the only reason i am mentioning CafeDorkass now is: when all his bad karma comes knocking (funny... Opening is just around the corner and i aint heard any hype ANYWHERES about his sorry ass yet. not even Eater gives a shit ? that's pretty sad) i just want to be the one to say: YAH. I KNEW IT ALL ALONG.

hm.........................newjack???????????????? many have failed...........................even with years of experience................................

i must admit i am curious to see how it all develops

it's a rather nice space actually. decent location. can't remember who the chef is but i vaguely recall something about a semi impressive stint at one joint somewheres (as a sous).

it seems no PR so far.

if Dorkass is acting as managing partner or GM-- well. that will be really interesting

if the place doesn't cut it, no big shocker there.

if it DOES make it, ohmylord the universe is fucked.

Meet Anderw Borrok (Or: The Man Bringing 4-Star Dining to Soho)
Monday, September 17, 2007

It's time to meet Andrew Borrok, who has just sold 14 Penn Plaza for a $250 million profit and has a cryogenic freezer in his Water Mill estate; also, he's the son of real estate mogul Charles Borrok; and he wants to open a four star restaurant in Soho next year where, "the emphasis will not be on profit.”

The Times gave the gent (right, with Mischa Barton) the Styles treatment this weekend, to dig in deeper on the summer he's spent trying to get famous ahead of the opening of his restaurant. Before we go any farther down this road, let's be clear: whether or not he'll be taken as such, Borrok is quite serious about all this. Here's some relevant text:

Mr. Borrok has never worked in a restaurant in any capacity, busboy or sous-chef, although he has taken classes at the French Culinary Institute in SoHo and hired one of the school’s teachers as a private tutor. Instead of paying his dues by producing wonders night after night in the pressure cooker of a Manhattan restaurant, he is paying his publicist to raise his profile as a social player......

Well, I heard they were serving Pop burgers, so I went to check it out. But, as soon as I got there, I wanted to leave right away.

huh.gif I can't even describe it; you probably have to see/experience it yourself.

oh brother

isn't it great how i ask for GUESSES and eater.com goes ahead and prints their assumption as though it's fact, without so much as bothering to try and confirm with me exactly to whom i am referring ?

okay so. let's say (hypothetically of course) this carlos-suarez IS the owner/operator of "CafeDorkass"--

if he goes around saying he will "steal customers" from his neighbors and "shut" places "down" and "bury" mutherfukkers...

well let's see now

this Bobo is located "four blocks north" from Centro, according to Eater, yes ?

why, that must mean it's located TWO blocks from theWaverlyInn and ONE AND ONE-HALF blocks from Morandi

and yet
Eater brings up Centro of all places.

hmmmmm

perhaps Eater should amend their link title to something FAR MORE APPROPRIATE like:

"Carlos Suarez vs. Graydon Carter, Keith McNally, and Sasha Muniak"
which would make much more sense. seeing as hypothetically, carlos-suarez would have been the one who started all this, yes ? and abbe-diaz never once mentioned the name carlos-suarez OR Bobo. so how did my name get involved in this exactly ?

oh but then again-- i guess none of those mutherfukkers are NEARLY as interesting as moi. hence all the "attention."

Ok, but THIS quote from Andrea Strong about Carlos just about made me fall over:

"Well, he's got a good story. Carlos went to Wharton, did the MBA thing, got into finance and then changed careers and pursued a passion for the restaurant business. He worked for Steve Hanson in various capacities to get some training and build the skills he'd need to one day open have his own place. "

Work for Hanson to get some training and build skills? The only thing you get from Hanson is either a bad drinking problem or the promise of a lifetime prescription of Zoloft.

Bobo, slated to open today in the West Village, is Carlos Suarez's long-time-coming dream of opening a European-style neighborhood place with a bit of polish, not roughness, around the edges. The kitchen work, thus far, is by chef Nicolas Cantrel, but for the early moving eaters the real attraction is a design by Caroline Grant and Dolores Suarez (relation; cousins), who design residences, mostly, but have really come to play here. Details are smart (check out the coasters) and all of the rooms -- there is a bar with tables and a rear cafe downstairs; upstairs is the proper dining room, another bar and a large rear patio -- feel authentically and uniquely clubby, not derivative of, say, the Waverly Inn. Time will tell how much lasting power Bobo has, but it certainly looks the part at the outset. What we have here, above, is downstairs barroom; below, the main dining room.

come to think of it, funny we haven't heard a single peep on Eater about ben-leventhal's Bobo dining experience. so i guess we can assume his rating would fall somewheres between "epic shitshow" and uhhh "the bestest restaurant in the whole wide world!"
