ah. cat's out of the bag, i see.

hmm-- a little disagreement on that GrubSt item: as far as i know, anne-burrell's replacement is leah-cohen.

also, i think it's kinda funny the Eater readers would assume i'm "commenter #5." hahahahaa i was just thinking as i was reading it "oh i wonder who that is. quite smart."

and then i discover supposedly it's me. well, for anybody "following too closely," it's not. my personal opinion is: it's the member here known as "Toscano," but i could be totally wrong too

oh but another thing: i think most of "PXthis" has (thankfully) remained rather apathetic about the whole thing, as evidenced by the amazing restraint exhibited the last few weeks, considering the members' profound insightfulness and distinct all-knowing-ness.

the only other thing i find really really really laughable is the idea Centro "will fail."

alls i can say is: hahahahaha hahaha hahah HAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHA haah aaaahhahahahahaaa

yah.

i'm pretty sure i've heard that one before. and so i say AGAIN:

why don't you do us all a favor and try holding your breath ?

rolleyes.gif What's even more laughable is that they're still talking about how Gusto is going to fail! Even though Gusto is going on it's fourth year, is still as hopping as ever, spawned the very successful Centro Vinoteca and is working on opening it's second sister restaurant. And all without an 'official' replacement for their old chef. dry.gif rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

"Centro owners will have a tough Fall"

Yeah right. Now that in this economy CV's price point will be more appreciated than ever (most reasonable priced wine list in the west Village), and the overhead has just plummeted, yeah I'm sure they will have a tough busiest season of the year.

@GTO:

As much as I appreciate and agree with your conviction that "personal attacks" (particularly of the 'anonymous' variety) have neither validity nor significance in this discussion and wholeheartedly applaud your advocacy of Ms. Burrell, I must assert the one thing I cannot stomach nor will abide is: outright lies.

Centro Vinoteca has issued its official statement regarding Ms Burrell. As someone with surely more knowledge of the situation than you (but with no professional ties to Centro Vinoteca), I respectfully request you not allow your sentiment to distort the facts.

Thank you.

A good piece of advice from a guy that knows.

Seeking celebrity chef status without a home base restaurant is a losing battle.
Unless you have the writing talent of a Bourdain or the idoit status of Rocco.

Either way you forsake your passion for food for the mighty buck.
You should be able to do both, if you are really talented.

But the real test is one of loyalty.................but what do I really know

Never sell out your passion or your friends
They are too valuable.

LOL.

Oh sure, you're real tough when it comes to esoteric references. So, let me make up for my rude, sexist joke by explaining this clearly for all the dimwits visiting from Beater.

Before Centro Vinoteca ever existed, Anne Burrell was employed at EU. EU never became popular, and obviously Burrell's presence didn't save it from 'the kiss of death'. Also, during the time Burrell was employed there, the Food Network certainly never came calling with TV show offers.

The lovely Abbe Diaz's point being - Muniak was just as key to Burrell's success as Burrell was to Centro's. Without Muniak having bought and built Centro with a well-known architect, and his own highly respectable press-worthy expertise at Mangia/Gusto, plus the aggressive PR effort he funded, Burrell would probably have come and gone from 'CV' much in the same way as her stint at EU.

As history has proven with Gusto, dicking over a 'good boss' like Muniak for the sole purpose of glorifying one's own ego, is probably not the smartest move a person can make.

Therefore, commenter 'GTO' with the 'fairly direct knowledge of what happened' - you can take your 'kiss of death' and suck it.

The End.

actually, it sounds like there's alot more to the story that you haven't told, so technically you still pussied out.

ITs odd... Isnt this the first restaurant Anne has really had full reign over? The EU which someone posted above had 2 chefs before it opened, Anne was supposed to be the chef that opened however she left shortly after the restaurant started its concept phase, the chef that actually opened the restaurant, Gwennelle le Pape of "Diablo Royale" and Le Orange, actually opened the restaurant...

How do i know? cuz i took some homeless people there when it opened.... Rofl... i dunno i was feeling nice that day and i didnt want to eat alone.... im a sucker for Karma...

But her name was synonymous with Centro... As in it should have been her "flagship" But it just seemed like at first she seemed very excited like Centro was going to work out for a while... then it just seemed to slip... like a forgotten memory... Press started to slide, then nothing at all... then now shes leaving....

I totally agree with how you should have a basis of roots firmly based in a restaurant, before TV stardom could even be dignified... i agree that a move like that will end up ruining a chefs, and credibility...

But then again you dont really know her goal... Who knows... maybe some people out there do want the Rachel Ray life.... HAhahahhahahahha

Leaving Centro wasn't her goal. From what I heard she hasn't really been there for the last month and a half after her show got picked up. She just called in to fuck with everyone or popped into fuck with the schedules nd oredring and mess with people's heads. So if she supposedy was planning on leaving for supposed better offers, then that was really nice of her to not come in to work but still clllect her fat paycheck. So many emps quit Centro because of her and they couldn't take it any more. But yea it will be interesting to see what happens with the show since it's Centro that's shown at the beginning if every show rolleyes.gif

Yea the diff is that with JG, he wouldn't care if every emp was unhappy or wanted to quit, he would still kepp the person that was destroying the business, as long as she made more money for him by stealing from the emps. Maybe Anne wouldn't have gotten famous with press, but she still would have a job for life. Unitl the lawyers show up rolleyes.gif

All I know is that I heard that Byron Bates (formerly of Bette) interviewed for the GM position with the Centro owner, but he declined because he heard that Anne Burrell was very difficult to work with. I guess he didn't want to be in a no-win situation, if they ever ended up squaring off.
